Roboform @ Linux ?
Filed under: Feisty Fawn, Linux, Roboform, Ubuntu, Wine, Xubuntu — Nimish Batra @ 8:43 pm
Step by Step.
1. Install Wine.
2. Install IE 6 using IEs4Linux.
3. Download Roboform [roboform.com], and run it by accessing it through the IE6 address bar [pretend as if it was Windows Explorer... use the Open dialog or the Address bar].
4. Once installed, copy your “My Roboform Data” folder from My Documents (or wherever) on your Windows partition, into the folder specified by Roboform @ Linux.
5. Use the exact same method as #3 for downloading and installing Firefox (http://www.download.com) under Wine, and download and install Roboform’s Firefox adapter (roboform.com).
Voila! Cross browser Roboform now works.
Just make sure to have the desktop icon enabled during installation for both IE and Firefox, and you can’t go wrong.
I installed IE 6 because I was curious, and I seriously think that using it (or Firefox for windows) under Wine cuts down on the system’s responsiveness (512 MB Ram here). You’re better off running Flock [not available in Synaptic for Feisty], Opera [it's also slower in Feisty, but worked well in PCLinuxOS 2007... I suspect it's a WINE adapted installation] or even plain ol’ Firefox. There’s also Swiftfox in some repository or the other, there’s Dillo (if you’re adventurous) and Epiphany as well.
I’ve no need for Roboform, but I used to need it. If you think you REALLY need it, consider asking Siber Systems (makers of Roboform) directly for a Linux version, rather than using it under Wine. It’s pretty ugly, but it works well enough.
Anyhow, I’ve uninstalled it all [running out of disk space, going to install 'Gamezzz' ] and it’s a nice diversion.
Just use Opera and share the Wand file across OSes.
Tested @ Xubuntu Feisty, will probably work @ PCLinuxOS 2007…
